Thank you for joining us. In this blog we will be covering how to score in Badminton.

Who Serves First?

The easiest way to decide who will serve first is either a coin toss (Used in professional tournaments), you can also throw the shuttle in the air, let it land and see which side it points, that person will serve first.

How To win A Point

There are a few ways you can win a point in Badminton; they are as follows:

- If your opponent misses the shuttle and it hits the floor on their side of the court.

- If your opponent hits the shuttle into the net.

- If your opponent hits the shuttle and lands outside of the court.

- If your opponent hits the shuttle twice before it goes over the net. (Double hit).

How To Score In Badminton

Every time a point is won, there is a point scored. Both players start on 0 points; it's the first person to reach 21 points wins the game. To win a match, you need to win the best of three games.

Serving changes depending on who wins the previous point, if you just served and your opponent wins the point they get to serve the next point. However, if you win the point, you carry on serving.

Winning By Two Clear

If the game's score gets to 20 - 20, you must win by two clear. This means the winner must get 22 points rather than 20. This can continue if both players keep winning every other point.

There is a limit to this; if both players get to 29 - 29, it goes to 'sudden death'. This means the player who wins the next point will win the game.

Which Side Do You Serve?

In Badminton, we have two service courts, one from the right and one from the left.

When the score adds up to an even number, we must be serving from the right, and when the score adds up to an odd number, we must be serving from the left. This is an easy way to remember which side you should be serving from if you get lost.
